Dustin Peden Earns American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Opioid Stewardship Certificate

Russellville, KY (January 18, 2024) -- Dustin Peden, PharmD, is a pharmacist for Logan Memorial Hospital. Peden earned his Bachelor of Science from Western Kentucky University in 2008 and his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 2012. He worked in retail pharmacy for nine years and became certified to dispense Opioid Antagonists and a Licensed Diabetes Educator. Peden has worked for Logan Memorial Hospital since March 2021 and has become certified in Antimicrobial Stewardship and Opioid Stewardship.
Peden recently earned the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Opioid Stewardship Certificate. This certificate was sponsored by the Kentucky Hospital Association KY SOS program.
To earn certification, Peden participated in 22 hours of continuing education on how to help reduce the suffering of pain patients while reducing their risk of addiction. Components of the education included strategies for creating executive leadership support and practitioner buy-in, using data and metrics to inform program development, quality improvement, and management, methods for educating the healthcare team and patients, and patient care strategies that identify and mitigate risks while incorporating shared decision-making with patients and/or caregivers.
